Somewhat off-topic, but…
Personal fitness is an important part of my photography pursuits. I love finding remote locations and hiking far into the mountains, sometimes 15-20 miles a day, is not for the faint of heart or weak of leg. So I try to eat right (with help from my wonderful wife) and stay fit.
3 weeks ago I strained a calf muscle, so I’ve been resting, stretching and rehabilitating – and worrying about losing my cardiovascular fitness. But Sunday I completed a short, slow run and today I ran my 6 mile lunch-time loop. I felt great! Not particularly fast, but pain-free. Yay!
I’ll also take this opportunity to plug one of my favorite Android apps – CardioTrainer – which I use on my T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. This cool little app is packed with features. Here’s what I like most:
- It maps your run and you can upload it to a personal space on their website. This lets you track your workouts over time. And it was easy to share the map below.
- You can configure it to start playing a music playlist automatically at the start of your workout.
- You can configure it to chime in with your running pace – I like to hear how I’m doing every mile.
- It supports all kinds of workouts – running, walking, hiking, biking, treadmill (acts as pedometer), etc.
- It is so simple to use. Plug in your ear buds and start your workout – very cool.
Here’s my run today. Hopefully, I can start hitting this 3-4 times a week and get ready for the summer photography and backpacking season!
