About Ordering My Fine Art Prints...

All images displayed in my galleries and travelogues are available as fine art prints.

You can order prints online directly from my Gallery.

If you would like to order an image displayed in a travelogue, or elsewhere on the website, that is not displayed in the gallery, just send me an email with the required information.

Images are also available in digital format for a wide range of uses - web, publication, advertising, etc. Prices for such uses vary widely. Please contact me for a specialized price quote.

Here are answers to some common questions about ordering prints...

Have a question not answered here? Please feel free to contact me.

My Guarantee

If you are not completely satisfied with your print, please, please, please, contact me immediately. I will replace the print with an improved (hopefully) version. Or I will provide you with a full refund upon return of the print. I want you to have confidence in placing your order. But most of all, I want you to be happy with your print!

A Minor Disclaimer

I can not guarantee that your print will exactly match what you see on your computer monitor. The settings on your computer monitor, such as brightness, color and contrast, can effect the way my images are displayed on the web. This is totally out of my control, and I have no way of knowing what images look like on your monitor. I know what they look like on my fully calibrated monitor, and that is what I use to match your print.

That being said, these variances are usually minor and many customers tell me that the prints they receive look better than what they see on their computer monitor.

Image Preparation

I employ the latest photographic printing technologies. And this requires the images to be in digital format. My original film transparencies are professionally scanned at high resolution. The scans from large format film provide incredible detail and rich tones unobtainable from today's digital cameras. These images can be printed at very large sizes, up to 48"x60". Other images, mostly of the travel genre, come straight out of my digital SLR camera. I spend a considerable amount of time refining each digital image on a calibrated monitor to obtain the best possible color, contrast, tonality and sharpness. Only then is the final master image ready for printing.

Types of Prints:

I hand-craft my fine art prints, in my own studio, using an Epson Stylus Pro 4000 ink jet printer. This gives me total control over all facets of the print-making and gives you a higher quality print. If you order a print online from my gallery, this is the type of print you will receive.

I prefer modern ink jet prints to prints made with traditional printing methods. But this is just my personal preference and opinion. I am happy to provide traditional prints of my images. I outsource this printing to a professional photo lab. Please contact me if you would like to order a traditional print.

If you are unsure about which kind of print you would like best, please feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to talk with you about the different processes.

Ink Jet Prints: Today's professional ink jet printers produce outstanding quality with unsurpassed color fidelity, detail and saturation, and have an archival lifetime expectancy up to 200+ years. Images can be printed on matte or luster paper surfaces. Each print is individually hand signed. If you order a print online from my gallery, this is the type of print you will receive.

Traditional Prints: I outsource these prints to a professional photo lab. The print is created from my digital file by either a ZBE Chromira or Cymbolic Sciences LightJet printer on Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper (matte or glossy paper surfaces). The resulting prints have wonderful color fidelity and detail, and have an archival lifetime expectancy of 70+ years. Again, each print is individually hand signed.

Print Sizes:

I limit print sizes in my online shopping cart to 16" x 20" for a number of reasons.

  • Extra-large prints require extra care to produce premium results.
  • Not all of my images are suitable for making extra-large prints. Many of the images on my website were made with 35mm film and digital SLRs. These originals are capable of producing excellent quality prints 16" x 20" and smaller. But, in my opinion, the quality of prints larger than 16" x 20" from these originals is unacceptable.
  • It is sometimes preferable to create extra-large prints using traditional printing methods (see above). I outsource these types of prints, so an email exchange is required anyway.

That being said... Many of the images on my website were created on medium and large format film. These originals can create outstanding quality extra-large prints with amazing detail and surprising emotional impact. And I enjoy producing extra-large prints for these

Please contact me if you are interested in prints larger than 16" x 20".

Another note: Some images on my website have non-standard dimensions because they are cropped to produce the most eye-pleasing composition. If you order such an image, I will work with you to make sure you understand exactly what size image you are ordering.
