Day 19 - Berlin

Siegassaulle - The Victory ColumnToday we hit some of Berlin's world class museums. A 6.00 Euro pass gets you admittance into just about any national museum - what a deal! We started early at the Egyptian Museum which houses, among other treasures, the famous bust of Nefertiti, mother of Tuthankhaman (King Tut). We spent hours here and could have stayed longer! But we meandered across the street to the Picasso Museum which, obviously, contained a totally different variety of art. We perused these galleries for another 1.5 hours.

Our eyes (and brains) needed a rest, so we got a sandwich and a drink at a nearby corner cafe and then jumped the bus back towards the center of town and gave our Berlin Cathedrallegs a work-out by climbing the Siegassaule, the Victory Column. 258 steps upward gives you a commanding view of the city.

Then we headed up to the Pergamon Museum for a dose of ancient Roman art and sculpture. After another couple hours of museum-ing, our feet were completely worn out! We rested on a shaded bench in front of the Berlin Cathedral and decided to call it a day. On the way back to the hotel we stopped quickly to pick up some postcards and a novel for me to read on the train tomorrow traveling to Prague.
