Day 42 - Lauterbrunnen Valley

The Mountain View TrailLots of cows along the lower portion of the trail...This morning we took the train from Interlaken up to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. From the train station we hiked along the river to Trummelbach Falls. It was quiet and overcast and we hardly saw anyone until we approached the falls and purchased tickets. We rode the cog rail up into the cave-like slot canyon carved by the falls. You hike upwards along dark, stepped tunnels to various viewpoints of the churning waterfall. The air is full of cold mist and the roaring sound of the rushing water.

We walked from along the trails and road up to the tram at Stechelberg and took it up the valley walls to Murren via Gimmelwald. From there we spent several hours hiking the Mountain View Trail all the way to Grutschalp. The weather cleared and we had wonderful views of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau.

Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau

We ate sandwiches on thick Swiss bread before boarding the tram back down to Lauterbrunnen. From there we returned to Interlaken and walked around town enjoying the sunshine and warm weather.
