Colorado Fall Colors ~ September 22-23 &
October 13-14, 2007
Location...
On
September 22nd I headed down to Kebler Pass
and Ohio Pass returning to areas I'd scouted last year and to explore several new
areas. The leaves had just begun to change in this area. So by Saturday
afternoon, I decided to head for other areas which tend to show their color
earlier in the season. I headed North and back over McClure Pass and towards Aspen, CO.
One of my favorite locations in the area is the view of Capitol Peak. By the
time we arrived at the Capitol Peak trailhead and made our way up the 4WD
road, storms
had begun to move in. The weather was changing, for sure. Windy squalls
alternated with periods of sun poking through the clouds and the views were
just phenomenal. But by
early evening it was raining, spoiling our plans for sunset and alpenglow,
and the rain continued on and off all night. Low
clouds, fog and rain also spoiled Sunday sunrise at the Maroon Bells,
disappointing a parking lot full of photographers. The rain
continued throughout Sunday, so I spent the rest of the
day shooting from the car along Castle Creek, working my way from Aspen
towards Ashcroft. And although the day was rather wet and soggy, the fall
colors were saturated and, most of the time, the light was ideal for
photography.
