Lost Lake ~ July 27th & 28th, 2007 Next Photo >
I'd been hiking about 30 minutes and I was gaining elevation towards a saddle in the tundra when I noticed movement several hundred yards ahead of me. A bull elk was running directly at me! I fumbled quickly to get my camera out and the settings adjusted so I could try to hand-hold a shot in the cloudy morning light. He closed on my position quickly and stopped about 40 yards when he noticed me. Then he trotted up this ridge before stopping for a silhouetted pose. I'm certainly not a wildlife photographer, as evidenced by this photo, but this was a experience worth sharing.
